Fatal Crash on Indy's West Side

Source: WISH-TV

INDIANAPOLIS–One person was killed Thursday morning not long after a van caught on fire on the southwest side of Indianapolis.

Around 8:30 am, State Police troopers responded to a crash involving a van and a semi on I-465 near the Washington Street exit. INDOT says their cameras captured the van engulfed in flames.

Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine says it appears the person driving the van ran into the back of a dump truck.

“They showed no indication of slowing down before impact,” said Perrine.

The driver of the van was the only person inside the van. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was another serious crash when someone hit a deer with their car just before 6 am on I-70 westbound.

“If you’ve ever been in a crash with a deer, you realize how fast that can happen. It can happen in the blink of an eye. Make sure you manually activate your headlights because visibility gets tricky in the rain,” said Perrine.

The car that struck the deer was also struck by a semi-truck.
