SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — Speedway Animal Rescue is urgently seeking emergency fosters for animals currently housed at the Speedway Street Department, where there are eight animals but only five kennels available.

The situation is critical, as any animals remaining at the street department by Thursday, July 31, will be transferred to Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) if foster homes are not found.

“Fostering truly saves lives — and we need our community to step up,” Speedway Animal Rescue emphasized in their urgent appeal.

Speedway Animal Rescue has already committed to 18 animals this July, but without solid foster commitments, at least one animal may have to be relinquished to IACS. Executives say 33% of fosters give up within the first day, and their reserve fosters are currently exhausted.

In Speedway, stray or lost animals found within town limits are taken to the Speedway Street Department, where they are held for four business days before being turned over to Speedway Animal Rescue if not reclaimed. During their stay at the Speedway Street Department, animals are provided with blankets for comfort, and the facility is equipped with heating and air conditioning to ensure their well-being.

Speedway Animal Rescue provides all necessary supplies and veterinary care, ensuring the foster’s only responsibility is to provide a safe, loving home until the pet is adopted.

Visit the Speedway Animal Rescue website for more information about the animals available for adoption and a link for donations.
