INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts will honor the late Jim Irsay by adding his name to the Ring of Honor at Lucas Oil Stadium during their home opener against the Miami Dolphins on September 7.

Irsay, who owned and led the Colts for decades, died on May 21 and was laid to rest on June 2. The team announced today, which would have been his 66th birthday.

He’ll become the 20th person inducted, joining names like Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Tony Dungy, and his father Robert Irsay, who moved the franchise to Indianapolis.

The team says more ways for fans to celebrate Jim Irsay’s legacy will be announced in the weeks leading up to the season opener.

“Our dad loved this team, this city, and this state,” said Colts Owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon. “It’s only right that his name joins the other Colts greats in the Ring of Honor.”

Though Irsay grew up in the Chicago area, his connection to the Colts started early. As a teenager, he worked at training camps in Baltimore after his father bought the team in 1972, kicking off more than 50 years of involvement with the franchise and a lifelong bond with players, coaches, and staff.
