STATEHOUSE–Indiana Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith on Tuesday addressed trips overseas being taken by the Secretary of State Diego Morales.

This year Morales has taken trips to both India and Hungary. Beckwith was asked about both trips in an interview with 93 WIBC’s Kendall and Casey.

“He went to Hungary because of CPAC. He was invited because of the Hungary delegation that’s close to his wife to come and have conversations about Purdue and agriculture. He’s not making deals. He can’t make deals. He doesn’t have that authority. He has to go through the U.S. Department of Agriculture,” said Beckwith.

Beckwith says if he wants to promote Indiana’s agriculture in Hungary or Indiana, then “that’s awesome.” He did issue some skepticism about the trip to India.

“When it comes to the transparency of the India trip, I have a problem with that. Who did pay for that? We should know about those things. He needs to be more transparent. I’ve told him that,” said Beckwith.

Beckwith said Morales did nothing wrong with the trip to Hungary.

“He’s over there speaking to CPAC. He can talk about Indiana Ag. That helps our farmers and I am about helping our farmers,” said Beckwith.

Beckwith says Morales’ office told him that they are going to send out a press release where the money came from and who paid for the trip to India.
