Lafayette Police Shoot, Kill Armed Man

LAFAYETTE, Ind — A man was shot and killed by police Thursday night after a domestic disturbance turned violent at a Lafayette apartment complex.
Officers responded to a call around 9:02 p.m. on Ravenwood Court, where a woman requested help leaving what police described as a potentially dangerous situation. She and her son were safely escorted from the apartment.
While officers remained inside, police say the man involved in the dispute, later identified as 55-year-old Kenneth D. Smith of Lafayette, opened fire on them. Officers returned fire, killing Smith at the scene.
No officers or civilians were injured. The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office is handling the death investigation.
