INDIANAPOLIS—Rain and gusty winds will persist for the next few days, with a chance of thunderstorms and hail. Today’s winds will be around 25-30 mph, but Friday could be the windiest, with gusts up to 40 mph.

“If you have any decorations or trash cans out, make sure you have them tied down,” said Aaron Updike, a forecaster at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Updike warned that some future thunderstorms could turn severe, with strong winds being the biggest threat. “Any amount of wind can add energy to the atmosphere, increasing the chances of severe weather,” he explained.

He added, “Whenever we get these southwesterly winds, it pushes some of the Gulf moisture up toward Central Indiana, which fuels the potential for heavier showers.”

Isolated showers will return Thursday afternoon, and while temperatures are above normal now, much colder air is expected for the weekend.
