INDIANAPOLIS — Police arrested 33-year-old Jazz Drane for his role in a hit-and-run crash downtown on Tuesday morning.
Shortly before 8 a.m., officers responded to reports of a crash at West Michigan Street and Illinois Street and found 46-year-old Andrea Nicole Gibbs. Paramedics later pronounced her dead.
Witnesses remained at the scene, providing essential information that helped police identify the suspect. Drane’s truck was located nearby and towed by authorities.
“Our detectives did a fantastic job collecting evidence at the scene,” said IMPD Sergeant Amanda Hibschman. “We had several witnesses who cooperated.”
After reviewing evidence and video footage from local businesses, IMPD identified Drane as the driver. He was located and arrested Wednesday on Redfern Drive in Beech Grove, facing preliminary charges for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
IMPD Chief Chris Bailey extended condolences to Gibbs’ family and commended the officers for their dedication in making the arrest.
Hibschman emphasized the importance of staying at the scene and providing a firsthand account if you witness a hit-and-run, as it greatly assists police in their investigation.
