Ice and Snow to Affect Evening Commute

INDIANAPOLIS — A winter weather advisory starts this afternoon as snow and freezing rain move through, creating slick roads with the most ice building up this evening. A few flurries may linger overnight.
“South of I-70, it will mainly be a chilly rain after lunchtime through the evening drive, winding down by mid-evening,” said WISH-TV forecaster Marcus Bailey. “North of I-70, you could see ice starting just after lunch.”
The worst ice is expected during the evening commute, with up to a quarter-inch possible. Bailey warns that even a little ice can cause crashes, especially on bridges and overpasses.
“Ice is a whole different beast than snow,” Bailey said. “It can be difficult to see, so give yourself plenty of space. Always assume the road may be slick, even when it looks wet.”
Hoosiers can expect mostly snow in the northwest and a mix of snow and ice in the southeast, with travel potentially difficult from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.
“How much snow depends on whether enough moisture is around, and that’s something we can’t answer yet,” Bailey added.
