SEATTLE, WA.–A federal judge is temporarily blocking President Trump’s executive order that aims to limit birthright citizenship.
A Seattle U.S. District Judge heard arguments Thursday in a lawsuit filed by Arizona, Illinois, Oregon and Washington. Trump signed the executive order Monday after being sworn back into office.
The order would limit birthright citizenship to children born to at least one parent who is either a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Several Hoosiers were not a fan of this move by Trump.
“Hey you’re born here, then you’re an American. That’s the way I see it,” said one man in Indianapolis.
A man standing next to him also had an opinion to offer.
“If you have a baby in a United States, it’s a U.S. citizen. I mean come on. You gotta stick with that one,” he said.
A separate man believed that Trump will “make a deal” or find some sort of compromise on it. A woman who also didn’t want to be identified said she was appalled when she heard about the order.
“He got all the votes and the people who voted for him knew he was going to do this. I think he’s being too hard on humanity,” she said.
At least five different lawsuits have been filed over the executive order.
