Snow Today, Single Digits Tonight, Warmer Temps Ahead

INDIANAPOLIS – Light snow and mild temperatures are expected today as a system moves through the state. Snow will taper off this afternoon, but a cold front tonight will bring single-digit temperatures.

“It’ll bring a shot of pretty cold air,” said Chad Swain, an Indianapolis forecaster with the National Weather Service. “Winds will diminish, so they won’t be much of a factor.”

Warmer weather is on the horizon, with temperatures climbing into the 30s by Saturday and possibly hitting the 40s in areas like Bloomington and Vincennes.

Snow is expected to move into Indianapolis by noon and stick around for much of the day.

“We’re expecting snow across most of the state,” Swain said. “Most areas will see just a dusting, but spots north of Central Indiana, especially near Lake Michigan, could pick up about an inch.”

The Arctic air mass responsible for the subzero temperatures across Indiana over the past few days is the same system bringing rare snow to southern states.
