BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A woman in Bloomington is charged with neglect and criminal recklessness.
She’s accused of stuffing a 2-year-old boy inside a suitcase before boarding a city bus. Court documents say Ashley Gibson was arrested in mid-December.
Police were called shortly after Gibson got on the bus and the bus driver heard her mention she had a child in the suitcase.
Cameras on the bus caught Gibson removing the child from the suitcase. When asked about it by responding officers she said it was to keep the child warm, though the toddler had plenty of winter clothes on.
Officers questioned further on why she had placed the child inside the suitcase. The court documents say she told the officers that her family caseworker “told her it was okay to do.”
