GAZA — Israel and Hamas are in agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage deal. The news comes as the two sides have been fighting in the Gaza Strip after Hamas attacked Israel in October of 2023.
The deal is set to go into effect Sunday and includes Hamas releasing hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Delegations from the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar worked to secure it.
President-elect Trump had repeatedly warned that “all hell will break out” if a deal wasn’t reached before he took office.
Hoosier Congressman Jim Baird Tweeted Wednesday, “President Trump’s warnings to Hamas worked. The U.S. is finally returning to a position of STRENGTH and a successful foreign policy that will help restore peace around the world.”
Representative Andre Carson wrote, “A ceasefire brings us one step closer toward peace for both neighbors to live side by side in safety & security.”
