INDIANAPOLIS — As this weekend’s anticipated winter storm gets closer, meteorologists are continuing to predict what you can expect.
Meteorologist Mike Ryan with the National Weather Service Indianapolis says snow will begin falling Sunday morning in the Wabash Valley, and will reach the Circle City by Sunday afternoon.
The heaviest snowfall will impact the I-70 corridor and areas south of it, starting later Sunday afternoon or early evening. Those regions are likely to get at least five to 10 inches of snow.
In Indianapolis, you can expect about four to eight or nine inches, with northern cities only getting about three to five inches. Some sleet could also impact the state, though snow is far more likely.
And, wintry precipitation is not the only challenge you may face in the coming days.
Ryan notes that “bitterly” cold temperatures will prevent the snow from melting quickly, as wind chills could be below zero degrees at times. Strong winds will also blow the snow across the roadways.
In order to stay safe, you are encouraged to have an emergency kit in your car, with items like blankets, water, and snacks. If you need to access a warming center or get information on road conditions, call 2-1-1 or 5-1-1, respectively.
