COLLEGE BASKETBALL: JAN 02 Rutgers at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—The Indiana Hoosier men’s basketball team got their second Big Ten win of the season Thursday night with an 84-74 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

Rutgers raced out to a 23-16 lead in the first half, but the Hoosiers outscored them from that point 25-11 to end the first half. Hoosier guard Anthony Leal brought the crowd to its feet when he hit a shot at the buzzer from near half court to end the first half and give his team a 41-34 advantage.

The Hoosiers would lead by as many as 18, but Rutgers cut the deficit down to 6 at one point, but Indiana pulled away to win by 10.

After going 1-20 from the three-point line against Winthrop, the Hoosiers hit 12 out of their 27 three-point attempts.

Ace Bailey led all scorers for Rutgers with 39 points.

Indiana was led by Myles Rice who had 21 points on 5 rebounds. Oumar Ballo scored 17 points and snagged 12 rebounds. Mackenzie Mgbako had 16 points and Trey Galloway finished with 11.

Hoosier forward Malik Reneau was injured in the first minute of the game and sat out the rest of the game.

Indiana is now 11-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten. Rutgers drops to 8-6 on the year and is 1-2 in the league.
