INDIANAPOLIS –Sixteen adults were arrested, and several teenagers were detained for questioning after gunshots were fired at an Airbnb home early Thursday.

Dispatchers received multiple reports of shots fired around 1:20 a.m. at a house on Spruce Street in Fountain Square, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Captain John Arvin.

One caller told dispatchers they heard 22 gunshots and saw people running. Investigators believe the home was a short-term rental where a large gathering occurred before the shooting.

Arvin said officers arrived at the scene and saw people running away from the home.

“If your youngster or young adult is leaving the house and you know they have a gun, you’re wrong. You need to be a parent and step up, because when you don’t step up, the police have to get involved, the prosecutor’s office has to get involved and the judges have to get involved,” he said.

Police escorted about 20 teenagers or young adults from the house, seizing nine guns, a machine gun conversion device, and a drum magazine with up to 50 rounds of ammunition.

No injuries were reported. The people near the house were taken to an IndyGo bus to stay warm, and one teenager was picked up by their parents. The rest were taken downtown for questioning.

A search warrant allowed investigators to clear the house, where they found 12 firearms, a machine gun conversion device, a drum magazine, suspected marijuana, and multiple shell casings of various calibers.
