HAMMOND, Ind. — 46-year-old, Cachun Combs Jr., was sentenced to almost nine years in prison, along with three years of supervised release for owning a gun.

U.S. District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund sentenced Combs after he admitted to the charge, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.

Gary police came across a vehicle that was parked in an alley on June 2nd, 2023, and they found Combs sleeping with the gun sitting in his lap.

Combs has a criminal record:

  • Firing a gun.
  • Attempted battery.
  • Carrying a handgun without a license.
  • Battery resulting bodily harm.
  • Intending to distribute cocaine.

These charges made it illegal for him to own guns.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force, and the Gary Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney, Kristian R. Mukoski, prosecuted the case.
