When we say our final good-bye, remember my team. For die-hard sports fans, love for their favorite team extends beyond the stadium. Some people are die-hard fans, all the way to the very bitter end.

A recent survey conducted by PromoGuy.us reveals just how deeply sports fandom is embedded in American culture, with many fans wanting their devotion to live on in their funeral or memorial service.

63% Want Teams Represented at Memorials

The study found that 63% of respondents wish to include their favorite team in their final farewell. Whether through memorabilia, music, or heartfelt speeches, fans are committed to honoring their teams even after the final whistle.

Mississippi Leads in Loyalty

Mississippi has the most devoted fans, with 75% desiring their team’s presence at their memorial. Meanwhile, Utah showed the least enthusiasm, with only 9% of fans wanting a similar tribute.

Expressions of Eternal Fandom

Sports fans are choosing creative ways to incorporate their teams into their afterlife plans:

  • 60% of sports fans want their loyalty acknowledged in eulogies or farewell speeches.
  • 33% hope to be buried with treasured memorabilia, such as jerseys, signed balls, or scarves.
  • 21% are considering having their team’s name or logo engraved on their tombstone or urn.
  • 18% would like their ashes scattered at a team-related location, such as a stadium or training ground.

Gifts Beyond the Grave

The survey also found that 19% of fans plan to leave a donation to their favorite team in their will, ensuring their legacy continues to support their club.
