Hurricane Helene Remnants Bring Power Outages to Indiana

Friday’s weather system from Hurricane Helene brought damaging winds, the National Weather Service recording a 68-mph gust at the Indianapolis International Airport.
Those winds causing significant damage across AES Indiana and Duke Energy’s service areas, over 97 thousand AES Indiana customers lost power.
AES Indiana reporting 2,000 separate incidents – meaning 2,000 separate jobs – that their crews are responding to across their service territory.
Over half of those subscribers are back on. As of Saturday afternoon 30, 000 are still without power.
More than 70,000 Duke Energy customers were affected…About 2300 are still without power.

Downed lines are still being discovered across the Hoosier State, as crews continue to work. Mutual assistance crews from NIPSCO who are here in Indianapolis now joining AES Indiana crews out in the field to support restoration efforts.
