ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — Federal agents with the FBI with the help of Zionsville police conducted a raid at the headquarters of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing on Wednesday.

The FBI said the raid was part of an active investigation but has not released details on what the investigation pertains to.

Zionsville mayor John Stehr told the IBJ, who first reported on the raid, that the FBI “requested assistance in investigating the RLL HQ. The FBI said there is no threat to the public.

“We are cooperating fully with investigators,” the team said in a statement. “Given that this is an ongoing investigation, we are limited in what information we can share right now, but we intend to provide additional information as soon as we can.”

According to RACER Magazine, the FBI arrived at the RLL HQ Wednesday afternoon and told employees to leave all electronics and computers as they were, gather their belongings, and leave the facility. They say the raid may involve a former employee of Andretti Global’s IndyCar team who is now employed by RLL. That employee is said to have possibly taken intellectual property from Andretti to their new role with RLL.

It’s also believed the FBI visited the shop of Andretti Global last month requesting information, but it’s unclear if that is related to the RLL raid.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing moved into their new HQ in Zionsville in early 2023. The team fields three full-time cars in the NTT IndyCar Series. They are also heavily involved in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Series. The team is currently getting ready to race at this weekend’s Battle of the Bricks event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
