INDIANAPOLIS — A Bloomington woman charged with a federal hate crime for allegedly stabbing a Chinese American IU student has pleaded guilty.

That attack happened on a city bus in January 2023, Billie Davis agreed to plead guilty to a charge of committing a hate crime, she will be sentenced December 3 and faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, and three years of supervised release.

Her trial was set to begin next month, she was indicted by a federal grand jury in April. Her original state of Indiana charges, including attempted murder, were all dropped when the federal hate crime case was opened.

She will also have to pay restitution to the victim, although a specific amount has not been set.
