The Springfield Ohio Story Is About The People, Not PETS
Tony Katz:
Every bomb threat is a hoax in Springfield, OH coming from overseas, as we are told by the governor of Ohio, Mike Dewine.
Coming in the aftermath of Trump talking about eating cats and eating dogs, and what JD Vance is talking about? Sure. Also coming as I should say, we as media has not focused on the issues of immigration on Springfield and on small towns all across the Midwest, including right here in Indianapolis, including in Seymour. We see that there are things changing and moving. Change is fine. How are they changing and why This conversation about TPS Temporary protected status is the conversation to have.
Are we simply saying, hey, we can apply the status, let anybody into the country? To choose. Well, Tony, it’s a program and therefore you don’t have anything you can say about it.
I can say anything I want about anything. Anybody. Can you just deal with the consequences? It’s like Trump’s, you know, putting out. I hate Taylor Swift, OK?
Does it help? And the answer is no, it doesn’t. It can hurt. It can’t help because the people who also hate Taylor Swift are already with you. I want focus from my candidates. I don’t know why that’s so hard for everybody. It seems to be a pretty rational point of view. I want to discuss policy in full, and I’m not going to be told you can’t because.. oh yeah, that just means you’re a racist too… We’re still going to discuss the policy because that’s what grown-ups do. They discuss things of all different types. And this temporary protected status for Haitian migrants, has this created a problem and is it utilized as a tool to bring in labor for certain groups and certain companies in certain areas? If all I’m gonna hear in Springfield is the Haitians are such great workers, they show up on time and they don’t do drugs. First, what an insult to the people of Springfield. Secondly, what are you paying them? Is it less? Is it more? Is it the same as you would pay anybody else? And 3rd, are we utilizing this temporary protected status as nothing more than a jobs program for people who aren’t in the country who are also getting housing vouchers and EBT dollars? The questions are right there, can I ask them because it’s racist? Yeah, I can pay any attention to that. Has Trump and Vance on this whole idea of cats and dogs has it been way too much as far as I’m concerned, yes. Am I going to be surprised when one day a video shows up or proof shows up of somebody eating a cat or a dog in Springfield, OH, or anywhere else? No, no I’m not, because absolutely it has happened before. Say otherwise is nutty, and to engage things on a cultural aspect of how people do things is not irrational. In my view. The problem is the pets part is not the story. The immigration part is the story.
Well, you see Trump brought it up because now we’re talking about immigration. You see 4D chess. No, no, he could have just brought up immigration. We could still be having this conversation. Let’s settle down with the 4D chess. The press being only talking about this and not talking about the immigration issues, that is a huge part of this story. The purposeful wanting deflection, the unwillingness to engage honestly and clearly. Let let’s not pay attention to them. Let’s keep doing what we do. And for the people who are were bothered by me going to Springfield to learn what’s going on, don’t worry, I’m going back and I’m going to see more. And we’re going to start doing a lot more travel to get an idea of what’s going on and how towns are experiencing things and dealing with things. What other choice do we have? Listen to them. Listen to MSNBC. Nah.
