IMPD was called to the Convention Center around 6:30 pm when they were told about a disturbance. While officers were on their way to the scene, IMPD Commander Scott Hessong said they were notified by multiple people near Illinois and South Street that a man stabbed another man inside a hallway on the second floor of the Convention Center.

They have made an arrest. IMPD has identified their suspect who they arrested as 33-year-old Brian Fulton. The man who was stabbed was taken to a hospital where he died. Fulton is charged with murder.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the victim involved tonight. We have another senseless homicide that didn’t need to occur,” said Hessong.

Police are trying to figure out what led up to the stabbing, but they say they are thankful that witnesses pointed them in the right direction so they could make an arrest.

“Downtown is safe. I argue that we have wonderful technology in the downtown area that helps us solve crimes when crimes do occur.  They are rare for downtown but they do happen every once in a while. But usually when they happen, we solve them pretty quickly,” said Hessong.

Hessong also credits off duty officers for helping out with this investigation.

No events were going on Wednesday night at the Convention Center.
