GREENWOOD — A large house fire is being investigated, with officials identifying lightning as the main culprit.
The Fire Department responded to a fire at a home on Alton Drive Thursday afternoon around 5:00. When firemen arrived, they discovered the residence on fire and a partial collapse of the garage roof. The fire was completely out around 6:00.
Fortunately, no homeowners or firemen were wounded during the event.
Although the actual origin of the fire is being studied, preliminary findings indicate that lightning may have started the conflagration. The affected family is getting aid from victim assistance groups, including the American Red Cross, to help them recover from the fire.
