INDIANAPOLIS–A man whose wife was killed in Indianapolis in 2015 during a home invasion says he is helping both himself and others through trauma by helping them find purpose in their pain.
Davey Blackburn has written a book called “Nothing is Wasted: A True Story of Hope, Forgiveness, and Finding Purpose in Pain.” He also started the Nothing is Wasted Ministries in 2019 to help people “navigate their trauma, tragedies, and major life transitions and find purpose in their pain.”
Davey’s wife, Amanda, was shot during a robbery at the couple’s home on November 10, 2015. Amanda died at a hospital a day later. Three men were arrested for her killing and are all serving time behind bars. Amanda was also pregnant at the time.
While Davey acknowledges that no legal system designed by man is perfect, he says the police, prosecutors, and investigators all did “an incredible job in getting justice for Amanda.”
“If Amanda were here talking to us right now, she would say ‘Make your life about something bigger than you. Make it about helping other people.’ That’s really what the message is all about in “Nothing is Wasted,” said Davey Blackburn.
Davey says whatever pain your feeling likely has you feeling stuck, but it’s his support system that he credits helping him through it.
“My faith is very important to me. I really believe that God is the one that met me in the deepest and darkest valleys that I walked through. God will meet everyone in that valley if they’re open to it, but I also had so many great people around me,” said Davey.
The Nothing is Wasted Ministries is made up of dozens of coaches.
“These coaches help people by using a curriculum that we developed called ‘Pain to Purpose.’ Now what I spend most of my time doing is traveling to churches and college campuses to help them launch this curriculum in their organization and communities, so they can provide spaces where people can heal and re-establish some firm foundations in life. They can also figure out how God can use their own unique story to help other people,” said Davey.
The public is also invited to attend his Nothing is Wasted Book Launch Event in Whitestown Thursday night at 6:30 pm at Sixpence in Whitestown.
Davey also has the Nothing is Wasted podcast which has more than 300 episodes and over three million downloads. Davey lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Kristi, and their three children. They also have a miniature dachshund named Harry.
