Indiana Legislators Consider Bills That Grant Parental Say Over School Curriculum
Indiana legislators are debating bills this week that are aimed at granting parents more say over what’s taught in school classrooms.
House Bill 1134 is one of several bills written in response to debates over Critical Race Theory (CRT) and social-emotional learning (SEL).
The bill implicitly states that educators are may not “present any form of racial or sex-stereotyping, or blame on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, or political affiliation.”
The bill also allows parents to opt-out of social-emotional learning activities.
Lawmakers are also considering Senate Bill 167 and House Bill 1040, which cover curriculum transparency.
