STATEWIDE–Much of Indiana is expected to get scattered rain and thunderstorms Thursday with temperatures and humidity dropping into the weekend.

All but the far northwestern portion of the state is under a “marginal risk” for severe weather. A marginal risk means isolated severe storms are possible, with the threat of isolated damaging winds, small hail, and maybe a tornado.

“The showers started this morning (Thursday) and they’ll become more numerous in the afternoon and early evening. That’s when we’ll have a chance for isolated severe thunderstorms. The primary threats for these storms are damaging winds,” said Chad Swain, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Swain also says he can’t rule out the possibility of hail. He expects the storms to end late Thursday.

“It won’t be so bad during the day on Friday. But then by Friday night, showers and thunderstorm chances come back and we have those chances all into the middle of next week,” said Swain.

There will also be a decrease in heat and humidity.

“We’re also getting a very brief shot of cooler air from up north that will keep us around the upper 70s for the weekend, but by the middle of the next week we’ll be back up into the middle 80s,” said Swain.

Since there are recurring chances of rain over the next few days, Swain urges you to watch out for flooding this weekend.
