Several states have now lifted the mask mandate. After a year of the pandemic Texas, Mississippi, Iowa, North Dakota and now Wyoming say citizens will no longer be required to wear a mask when in public. Many Hoosiers want to know why Governor Holcomb hasn’t followed suite.
Indiana is surrounded by liberal states (minus Ohio) with left leaning governors like Pritzker of Illinois, Beshear in Kentucky, and of course Whitmer in Michigan. Surrounded by more liberal states leads Tony Katz to believe that the mask mandate really boils down to business tactics.
Maybe the mask mandate was a way of signaling, you know, ‘We care. We care about your future employees which you are going to get right here- great Hoosiers who are going to work for you.’ My theory is by taking a look at the states around him (Holcomb) and taking a look at the opportunities that might exist–he goes forward on the mask mandate on the thesis, on the theory, that it was more advantageous then not. That it could provide more value from that angle than not.
If that’s not at least a part of the decision making process than maybe the governor really is just playing ‘follow the leader.’ TK is just trying to give the benefit of the doubt here.
