Critics of Mayor Bill de Blasio are calling for his impeachment amid outrage over riots and lootings in the city during protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The online Change.org petition — “Impeach de Blasio” — garnered more than 90,000 signatures as of Wednesday, well above organizers goal of 75,000 backers.

“Mayor Bill DeBlasio is destroying New York City,” the petition reads. “We cannot have him continue as mayor for the next two years. The people of NY want change, and now is the time to act before it becomes any worse. This is not about being conservative, left, etc. This is about “radical” politics that are harming the city and being neglectful of New Yorkers.”

Meanwhile, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday slammed de Blasio’s handling of riots in his city, calling it a “disgrace” and adding that he has the power to “displace” the mayor.

Cuomo said at a press conference that the mayor underestimates the scope and duration of the problem.

“You have 38,000 NYPD people, it is the largest police department in the United States of America,” he said. “Use 38,000 people and protect property. Use the police, protect property and people. Look at the videos, it was a disgrace.”
