Man and Wife Dead After Shooting, Police Chase in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – INDIANAPOLIS — A man was shot and killed by Indianapolis police Thursday morning after police say he shot and killed his wife, then led officers on a chase.
It started around 7:20 a.m. when officers were called to North Ritter Avenue and found a woman critically wounded. She later died at the hospital.
Police say the man drove off, leading them to West 32nd Street. That’s where officers shot and killed him. Two police cars were damaged during the incident, but no officers were hurt.
Investigators recovered a handgun, a rifle, and other evidence from the scene. IMPD is using drones to search the area and is asking neighbors to share any video or tips.
The Fraternal Order of Police says the shooting highlights a growing pattern of violent offenders showing little hesitation in targeting officers, even in broad daylight and residential neighborhoods. According to the FOP, women and minors now make up nearly 35% of all homicide victims in Indianapolis, and the city continues to outpace Chicago in per-capita homicides by more than 17%.
The FOP also said the incident is another example of officers putting themselves in harm’s way while others are just starting their day. They say the community must face the hard truth: there are times when violence must be stopped by lawful force to restore safety.
Anyone with video or tips is asked to contact IMPD detectives.
