Man Found Dead During Indianapolis Search Warrant

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal shooting on the east side of Indianapolis Monday evening.
Sgt. John Perrine said the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force was serving a search warrant near East Washington Street around 6:30 p.m. Officers knocked twice without a response before a gunshot was heard inside.
After the shot, a man and a toddler came to the door. The man was taken into custody, and the child was placed with the authorities.
Inside, officers found another man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe the wound may have been self-inflicted, but are still investigating.
No officers fired their weapons, and no one else was injured. The man who died was the subject of the warrant and was suspected of illegally possessing firearms.
Perrine said the investigation is ongoing and police are working to gather more information.
