“Tee for Tyler” Event Honors Late Purdue fan Tyler Trent

FISHERS, Ind. – More than five years after his death, the legacy of inspirational Purdue fan Tyler Trent continues to drive the fight against pediatric cancer.
That mission is on full display today, June 9, as hundreds of supporters, including Indianapolis Colts General Manager Chris Ballard, Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam and former Governor Mitch Daniels, gather for the fifth annual “Tee Off for Tyler” golf outing at The Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.
The sold-out event honors the memory of Trent, the Purdue student and sports journalism hopeful whose battle with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, captivated the nation. Before his passing on January 1, 2019, Tyler used his platform to raise more than $3 million for cancer research. The Tyler Trent Foundation, established in his honor, continues that relentless work.
“Tyler was committed to sharing his story to raise money to eradicate this disease,” said Tony Trent, Tyler’s father. “This event is a celebration of his spirit and a crucial part of continuing the mission he started.” While the golf outing is full, the foundation is launching new ways for the community to get involved. Today marks the start of The Tyler Trent Captain’s Club, a new monthly giving campaign.
“The fight against pediatric cancer is one we can all win together, even if you can’t be at the golf outing,” a foundation spokesperson stated. By joining the Captain’s Club, supporters can make monthly donations to advance research and support families, receiving exclusive updates and event invitations in return. Community members can also support the cause by participating in the event’s silent auction, which is open to the public online. Items up for grabs include VIP sports experiences and autographed memorabilia.
The family’s commitment to finding a cure has also expanded nationally. Tony Trent was recently named to the Osteosarcoma Patient Advisory Board for OS Therapies, a Maryland-based biotech company developing new treatments for the disease that took his son’s life.
