More Information Released on Gibson County Killings

HAUBSTADT, Ind.–The names of three people killed in a Thursday night triple murder in Haubstadt, in Gibson County, have been released.
According to 14 News, they are Alma Waite, 61; Gloria Tapia Garcia, 81 and Fernando Tapia Ramirez, Jr., 39. Garcia was shot while lying in the bed.
Court documents say the man arrested is Patrick Waite, 77, and that he was one of several people who called 911 after the killings, which happened in a private subdivision on Scottsdale Dr. When police arrived Waite surrendered, told them he was the one who shot the people, then told them where they could find the gun.
Four people were shot in all. The victim who lived was shot in the head and chest. All others died from gunshots to the head. An autopsy is expected to confirm that.
Waite told police that he shot his wife Alma first, during an argument over who owned the property.
A child witnessed one of the killings and was hiding in a bedroom when deputies arrived, according to Sheriff Bruce Vanoven.
Waite is charged preliminarily with the three killings.
