Teenager Shoots Himself at Ft. Wayne Airport, Dies at Hospital
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A teenage boy died after shooting himself in the parking lot of the Fort Wayne International Airport on Saturday.
The Fort Wayne Police Department and several agencies, including a SWAT team, were responded to a call for a “suicide threat” around noon. Officers found the teenager inside a vehicle, with a gun, threatening to shoot himself.
The entrance to the airport and the terminal building were blocked off during the situation. One flight to Chicago had to be canceled.
WANE-TV says police tried to negotiate with the teenager for close to two hours. After police set off chemical agents to stop the situation, the teen shot himself. The boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office has not released the teenager’s name. Fort Wayne police are still investigating the incident.
