(INDIANAPOLIS) – About 200 people gathered at the statehouse for an early celebration of Martin Luther King Day.

Governor Holcomb told the annual tribute King was a towering figure, not just for his pursuit of justice for all but for how his Christian ministry shaped his approach. He says King lived out his faith that America would fulfill its promise of becoming one nation under God, and challenged the rest of us not to merely dream of a better world, but to take action to achieve it.

Holcomb notes King was assassinated four weeks before the future governor was born. He’s one of 10 current governors born after King’s death, and the first in Indiana history.

The Martin Luther King Indiana Holiday Commission has organized the annual statehouse celebration since 1992.
