INDIANAPOLIS — Indy Metro Police are investigating after a man on trial apparently committed suicide.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the man – who was not identified by the organization – was out on a cash bond Wednesday, waiting for a jury to determine his fate.
The MCSO also did not specify for what crime(s) the man was on trial.
When he did not return to the courtroom at the Community Justice Campus, officers went to arrest him at Blackburn Terrace Apartments. There, they learned that he was “barricaded” inside his apartment.
A SWAT standoff ensued, but officers eventually got inside, where they found the man with a “gunshot wound to the head.” They believe he had shot himself.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but he did not survive.
