INDIANAPOLIS–A sergeant with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was arrested and charged with theft earlier this month.
In a news release sent out Saturday night, IMPD said they responded to Target on Southport Road at around 4:45 pm on February 1. That’s just off Interstate 65.
When they got there, they discovered that the suspect was 17-year IMPD veteran Sergeant Sara Lamkin. She was off-duty at the time.
Court documents say Lamkin was spotted in the Target “ticket switching”-which is peeling off price stickers from cheaper items and placing them on items she wanted to buy. They also say that Lamkin asked a Target loss prevention officer to not report the theft out of fear that she could lose her job.
Lamkin is on paid leave pending a thorough review of all the facts.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office filed theft charges against Lamkin on February 6. Her initial court hearing is March 6.
