STATEHOUSE — This legislative session, you can help Hoosier lawmakers support veterans in need by participating in an “essentials” drive.

The Indiana House of Representatives is working with Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF) of Indiana to compile items for veterans in need. Donations will be collected at the Statehouse through March.

Supplies including food, clothes, and hygiene products can be deposited in bins outside the House Chamber on the third floor, or in the south atrium of the fourth floor. Financial donations are also encouraged.

These “essentials” will go to veterans who were displaced or affected by a destructive fire at an HVAF facility last October. About 500 Indiana veterans experience homelessness each year.

House Speaker Todd Huston says, “Our veterans devoted their lives to defending this state and country, and we must do everything we can to ensure they have the resources to thrive after their service.”
