Winter Weather Freezing Temperatures

INDIANAPOLIS — You may have been expecting freezing rain and snow coming Sunday afternoon.

“We do still have a chance for light snow and perhaps some freezing drizzle as well. That’d be primarily in the evening hours,” Meteorologist, Joseph Nield, from the National Weather Service in Indianapolis says. “Chances are relatively low, but any amount of freezing drizzle will produce light glaze on surfaces and could cause travel concerns.”

Nield says roads could still be dangerous, and it’s something they’re keeping a close eye on for Sunday afternoon and evening.

“If snow is going to occur, it will likely be across most of the northern part of Indiana, especially far-northern Indiana, downstream to Lake Michigan, where there may have a little lake-effect enhancement as well,” Nield says.

Nield says highs Sunday are in the low to mid 30’s across Central Indiana, and lows tonight are in the mid-teens.

While temperatures will be freezing, you may not get a lot more snow on Monday.

“Monday should be dry and partly cloudy, but it will be quite a bit colder again. We may fall during much of the day with highs in the upper teens to low 20’s,” Nield says.

Wind chills are expected throughout the week.

“That cold air will be the rule for the next several days, especially through mid-week with highs each day likely in the mid-teens to around 20 and lows in the single-digits to perhaps even below 0 on Tuesday night,” Nield says.
