WASHINGTON, D.C.– The House is supposed to elect a Speaker this Friday, but Indiana Republican Congresswoman Victoria Spartz told Fox and Friends this morning that she’s not entirely sold on Mike Johnson being in control of things.

“I look at people’s track record. I don’t believe we will be able to deliver on President Trump’s agenda,” said Spartz to Fox News.

Spartz is one of several Republicans frustrated with Johnson because they feel he has not done enough to address the nation’s national debt. Johnson supported a spending deal that prevented a government shutdown earlier in December.

“We have a titanic on a crash course with the iceberg. Our country fiscally is going to have a disaster. This is a vote of Congress,” said Spartz.

In a post on Truth Social Monday morning, President-elect Trump announced that he was endorsing Johnson as House Speaker.

“Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man.  He will do the right thing, and we will continue to win,” the post said.

Supporters of Johnson warn that any delays in electing a speaker would also delay enacting Trump’s agenda. Spartz is confident that won’t happen.

“I think the Speaker needs to have commitments to the American people to deliver on the agenda. If Johnson wants to be Speaker, then he needs to abide by that plan and follow that plan,” said Spartz.

Johnson needs 218 votes to retain his position, meaning he can barely afford to lose any Republicans.
