Trump Subject Of Apparent Assassination Attempt at Golf Course
According to the New York Post, Donald Trump has survived a second assassination attempt.
A gunman was apparently spotted with an assault rifle near the former president’s golf course on Sunday while he was playing a round. He was also said to have two backpacks and a GoPro.
The man – later identified as Ryan Wesley Routh – was spotted around 2 p.m. by a team several holes ahead of Trump. A Secret Service agent fired on him as Trump played golf, causing Routh to flee.
Trump issued a statement after the apparent attempt on his life.
“There were gunshots in my vicinity but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!” he wrote in a campaign alert letting supporters know he was unharmed.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung also said:
“President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,”
Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance later posted on social media that he spoke to Trump before the news was public, and that he will be hugging his kids “extra tight tonight and saying a prayer of gratitude.”
The man was later arrested by local police on I-95. An assault rifle was recovered at the scene, which was earlier reported to be an AK-47.
Routh’s son who is 35 years olf talked with the Daily Mail and had this to say about his dad:
Police and the U.S. Secret Service are investigating.
