People Help Save Life After Crash and Fire Near IMS

SPEEDWAY, IND — On Tuesday, a medical emergency caused someone to crash their car into a utility pole, which then caught fire. The accident happened near West 16th Street and Polco Street, close to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Lt. Jacob McAtee from Speedway Police said people who saw the crash rushed over and may have saved the person’s life.

“The fire was pretty intense, and the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames,” said McAtee. “The subject is going to be OK. We want to thank the other drivers who witnessed the crash and helped save the other person’s life.”
The accident caused delays for people heading to work, but the area is now fully open again.
“We just appreciate the public. It just shows how great the city and the town is,” added McAtee.
