INDIANAPOLIS — It started as an argument and ended with a fatal shooting. Now, an Indianapolis man is heading to prison.
Emmanuel Newman and Joshua Hopson got into an argument at an apartment complex on Alsuda Court in the early morning hours of December 28th, 2022. This is on the northeast side of Indianapolis near Binford Boulevard.
Hopson’s girlfriend told Indianapolis Metro Police Newman left at one point during the argument before quickly returning. Hopson met Newman outside, only to be shot multiple times with a rifle. Newman then stood over Hopson’s body and fired more rounds.
Surveillance footage from the apartment and a private camera caught the entire incident.
Emmanuel Newman was arrested January 5th of 2023. He was convicted of murder this week after a three-day jury trial.
“This type of violence among family members is horrific and unsettling,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears in a Thursday press release, “the defendant allowed a simple dispute to escalate, and now he and this family will be grappling with the devastating consequences for years to come. We are grateful that the jury came to this resolution and our thoughts are with the family as we approach the sentencing portion of the proceedings.”
