MILWAUKEE, WI.–The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump last Saturday put a resolve on the Republican National Convention, according to Indiana’s Attorney General Todd Rokita.
Rokita attended this week’s convention.
“We were reminded that we are the party of the working man and that we should never lose it,” said Rokita in a Friday morning interview with 93 WIBC’s Tony Katz and the Morning News.
You’ve probably been hearing the terms “conservatism” and “populism” thrown around a lot in the world of politics lately. Populism is a range of political stances that emphasize the idea of “the people” and often juxtapose this group with “the elite”. It is frequently associated with anti-establishment and anti-political sentiment. Rokita gave his thoughts on that.
“In every conservative, there is a streak of populism. In every populist, there is a streak of conservatism. It’s just how wide or narrow those stripes are at a given time. I think it’s going to be the conservative’s job to keep that populism rational,” said Rokita.
Overall, Rokita says Republicans continue to do the best job of being a voice for the people.
“In my head, it (the Convention) was beautiful. It was wonderful. I don’t know what the Democratic answer is for it, but this was the American answer,” said Rokita.
