AES Indiana Bills Going Up by 12 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS–If you use AES Indiana for power, your bill is about to go up. The company is blaming rising fuel costs. Bills for the average customer are expected to go up about 12 percent.
An e-mail sent to customers Wednesday said the increase will begin with the cycle beginning Thursday.
“Natural gas and coal are among the fuels AES Indiana uses to generate electricity. Prices for these fuels have increased substantially over the past year. As a result of this higher charge, our customers’ bills are expected to increase roughly 12 percent. Please note that AES Indiana does not profit from these higher fuel charges,” read the e-mail.
The company says they routinely adjust prices based on the cost of natural gas and other fuels used to create power at power plants.
“These costs are filed quarterly to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission and can fluctuate — up and down — based on the cost of fuel. These costs are passed through to customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis in the FAC and do not include a profit for AES Indiana,” said the e-mail.
