City of Indianapolis Plans on Converting Some One-Way Streets to Two-Way
INDIANAPOLIS–The City of Indianapolis plans on converting several one-way streets to two-way streets with the hope of reducing crashes and making travel safer.
“Whether you live, work, or play in Indianapolis, you deserve to get where you’re going safely no matter how you choose to get there,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett at a news conference Monday.
Both Hogsett and the Department of Public Works celebrated the conversion of Fort Wayne Avenue to two-way traffic.
Several more streets will be converted in the future, including the downtown portion of College Avenue, the eastern segment of New York Street, and the eastern segment of Michigan Street.
“Indianapolis will be raising the level of investment closer to where it should have always been for a city of our size – both geographically and demographically. Just as critically, our City will return to a mindset that elevates pedestrian and driver safety well above speed. That goal is apparent in the project we celebrate today—the two-way conversion of Fort Wayne Avenue,” said Hogsett.
