Failed Suicide Attempt Results In Murder, Prison Sentence
DANVILLE, Ind. — A man’s suicide attempt has resulted in a prison sentence, after he killed another innocent man in a head-on crash.
Cody Albert, of Danville, was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
Police say Albert intentionally drove the wrong direction on the highway, and hit a car driven by 51-year-old Thomas Plasters. Plasters, who had a wife and kids, died at the scene.
Albert was convicted for murder and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance resulting in death.
Police say Albert was eating lunch while on break from work in 2018, when he got into an argument with his girlfriend about smoking marijuana. Albert later returned to work in Avon, wrote a suicide note, then drove to Plainfield.
Witnesses say Albert stopped his vehicle on westbound US 40, turned into a highway crossover, then started driving in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes. He was speeding, and eventually crashed head-on into Plasters’ car, killing him.
Albert was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He was arrested in January of 2019.
