Crime in the city of Indianapolis continues its unabated rise in the early days of 2021.

Five people died in four separate shootings Tuesday night that spanned a period of just four hours in the Circle City. So far no arrests have been made.

WIBC’s Kurt Darling reports:

Boulevard Place

They arrived to find a woman shot who was taken to an area hospital. She died shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said Tuesday evening. The Marion County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday night identified the woman who died as Ashley Bell, 32.

Pasadena Street

And at 6:28 p.m., police responded to an area of Pasadena Street, near East 38th Street and North Arlington Avenue, about a person shot. At that scene, a man and woman were pronounced dead, and another woman was taken to an area hospital where she is critical.

Stratford Court

Just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to Stratford Court, northeast of East 38th Street and North Post Road, on a report of a person shot. They found a man who was then taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The coroner’s office said the man who died was 28 years old but did not identify him.

Hillside Avenue

Just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to the New Bridge Apartments along Hillside Avenue on a report of a person shot. They found a man with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the apartments. He was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Johnny Purchase, 60.

WIBC host Tony Katz offered commentary on the disturbing crime statistics just days into 2021, putting the finder squarely at Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett:

Katz:

“Again, no play insight. No word from the Indy City-County Council. I’ve invited members of the Indy City-County Council to appear on the show and provide an explanation of the plan to deal with the violence, those calls have gone unanswered.

“I think we can definitely say after five years that the Mayor of Indianapolis has no plan, or his plan doesn’t work, or he is incapable of executing a plan that will work. You pick, Indianapolis.”
