BATESVILLE, Ind. — You know the name of the man state police shot in Batesville on Monday.

Joshua Evans, a 32-year-old man from Batesville, was the man Batesville officers shot. State police say the officers called to a home where the caller said Evans was behaving irrationally, enough to make other people at the home feel unsafe.

The cops got there and got everyone out of the home, but Evans held up in the garage. As officers tried to talk to him he fired a shot at them.

“Numerous agencies responded to the scene,” said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with Indiana State Police. “Evans remained barricaded inside the garage for three hours. At one point neighbors made contact with him on the phone.”

After a four-hour-long stand-off, Evans eventually ran from the garage firing more shots at SWAT officers. They returned fire and fatally wounded Evans.

State police investigators are still waiting on what the coroner has to say as they continue to investigate.
