(INDIANAPOLIS) — The head of the agency which oversees Eskenazi Hospital is resigning.

Matthew Gutwein has been president of the Health and Hospital Corporation for 18 years. He’ll step down at the end of next month.

Gutwein’s announcement comes three weeks after the Indianapolis Star revealed a secret settlement between HHC and American Senior Communities, which operates 90 agency-owned nursing homes in 52 Indiana cities. Two top ASC executives and three other men pleaded guilty to federal charges ofc inflating bills to swindle the agency out of millions of dollars.

The Star says a previously undisclosed report commissioned by ASC after the scandal found $35 million dollars in fraud, $20 million beyond the settlement the agency reached with the company.
