BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Two adults and a boy died Saturday after their car went down a boat ramp and into Lake Monroe, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

At around 10:30 p.m., witnesses reported seeing a car drive down the Paynetown State Recreation Area boat ramp and enter the water.

The driver called for help and tried to get out of the car. Witnesses were unable to rescue the people inside the car before it became submerged.

Members of the Monroe County Dive Team found and removed an adult male and female and a boy from the car. The adults died before they could be taken to a hospital. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It is unclear why the vehicle entered the water.
